A BIT ABOUT ME

Why Coaching Psychology?

prof pic resized.jpg

Like many in the world of psychology, I got here by first trying to figure myself out. Struggling with my own mental health made me want to offer the kind of care and support I wish I’d had when I was younger.

But I also just really love understanding why people do what they do. Coaching Psychology sits right where those two passions meet - it blends the science of human behaviour with powerful conversations that help people create real, lasting change.

Moving from England to Spain was a turning point for me. Stepping away from everything familiar gave me space to ask the big questions: Who am I? What do I actually want? Knowing more about myself has allowed me to start making daily choices that actually align with my values and strengths, and to tackle my own limiting beliefs about what I can and can't do.

And I found improv comedy—which is basically a way to cultivate more joy, creativity, and playfulness into my life, while directly facing my fears and making a fool of myself on stage. What’s not to love?

Work Experience
(& how it shaped me as a coach)

Keen to see the differences between textbook psychology and real life, I went straight from my degree into working in mental health teams, and found 1:1 wellbeing work to be incredibly rewarding.

Seeing the changes it makes to someone’s life when they feel listened to & believed in is AMAZING. And it’s a privilege for me to be able to work with people in that way.

I first worked as a Peer Support Coach in a Neighbourhood Mental Health Team. The team was new and we had a lot of flexibility to work with clients in a highly personalised and holistic way. We could test out and co-create different formats of coaching with our clients to see what really worked for them and what didn’t.

This opened my eyes to how mental health and wellbeing conversations can be even more open, honest, powerful and healing when mixed with other modalities such as walking and art, or when carried out in casual, comfy spaces instead of clinical rooms.

Through my Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Mental Health Practices, I was trained in Low Intensity CBT, which involved learning to use standardised tests to identify common mental health symptoms, conduct risk assessments, and use Low Intensity CBT programmes.

Low Intensity CBT aims to aid individuals in identifying their current patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and replace them with more helpful ones, using evidence-based and structured interventions (for more info, click here).

After moving to Spain, I somehow found myself joining an improv comedy team and performing regularly. This completely went against the narrative I’d built for myself as a shy, socially anxious, rigid-thinker and has been absolutely transformational. I felt like I was in fight-or-flight on stage for the first 6 months of performing, but over time have developed so many essential skills for life: following my intuition, expressing myself confidently, presenting in front of crowds, thinking creatively, and being a supportive team player.

AND it’s joyful and ridiculous and fun. And isn’t that the meaning of life? Just to enjoy ourselves and be a good team player in the world while we do it?

Most recently, I completed a Diploma in MHWB Coaching and really deepened my understanding of what it means to be a coach. I’ve learnt how simply giving someone the space to talk through their thoughts and hear it reflected back can untangle everything and bring sighs of relief. I’ve learnt how transformational a single question can be if asked in the right way at the right time. I’ve learnt how empowering it is to take responsibility for yourself, to learn deeply about yourself, and use this to look after yourself and create the changes you want.

Now I want to use all of these learnings and experiences to help you on your journey of self-discovery and recovery. If you’re ready to take control of your wellbeing and want to create a happier, more meaningful life, get in touch to see how I can support you - I can’t wait to cheer you on all the way.
